Who is really a better driver? Men or women?
The
battle of the sexes, this war has waged on throughout the years, using
many different platforms to disagree on. Between the two of us, we have
probably figured out throughout the years everything that it was
possible for us to either, disagree on, or compete over. We argue over
who is the more reasonable of the two, more physically equipped, smarter,
has more influence in the business world, in the world in general, over
each other, and my personal favorite, who is a better driver. The
reason this is my favorite is because when I was growing up my parents
didn’t really argue very much, however when it came to driving they
could never agree. My mother grew up in New Jersey and my father is from
New Hampshire, and they are both the stereo typical “location drivers”.
My mother drives aggressively like all NJ drivers and my father drives
very slow, which, if you don’t know is typical of NH drivers. In the
hopes to settle this argument once and for all, research is required. “Statistics Brain.com” found
from “Insurance Institute for Highway Safety” that Males have a ratio
of 3.41 of reckless driving to a 1 for female drivers. We all know that
men take more risks than women but this also seems to stand true with
driving. Males also have a 1.75 to 1 ratio of females for speeding
violations. Yes some may argue that, “men don’t follow the set rules,
but concerning technique, they are the better drivers.” That may be true
with some males, but “Statistics Brain.com” also states in the same
article that men and women between the ages of twenty to twenty nine
have a ratio of 4.0 to 2.0 of males to females in fatal car crashes. All
I can say to that is the rules are in place for a reason, and it takes
skill to maintain a set speed and correspond to guidelines as the roads
were designed to have them followed.
Parking is also a portion of driving that men more often
than not, firmly believe women are less capable of. However sorry I am
to disappoint some men, according to “The Huffington Post’s” article “Women Are Better At Parking Then Men: Study” women
are the ones that are typically better at parking. A study done by the
“NCP Parking report” found that “ men rush when parking and end up
wasting time and gas driving past parking spaces and, once they do find
one, are more apt to park sloppily.” It was also found that “While women
take longer to park” “53 percent of women were judged to have parked
centrally within a space, compared to just a quarter of men.”Men often complain about how women either worry too much or “have to have everything perfect”. If men think that, then they could also conceive that women take more care in driving then they do. Of course if men still don’t agree on the fact that women are better drivers than they can just read the statistics. I believe women are better drivers than men based on the statistics, that come from non biased sources, the common knowledge fact that men cost more to insure, so an industry purely driven by making money say that women are less of a cost to them, and from my own personal understanding on the differences between the way men and women act concerning different situations and habits. I guess in short, I would rather drive with women on the road then men.

ReplyDeleteI did some research on "Statistics Brain" website and they're U.S. based only. I was wondering if the ratios are the same worldwide because if we're talking ratios, the U.S. only has around 300 million people compared to around eight billion people worldwide. That's like a 1 to 27 ratio.
ReplyDeleteYou mention that it is only the US so there for its not accurate, well you should have looked at the other source, because that study was done in the United Kingdom.
DeleteSo women are better at parking. Okay, I'll give you that.
DeleteYes we are :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with the part on parking, men will park anywhere they can find an open place. But i also do agree with you, I still feel as if women are better drivers than men just because of my own experiences on the road with different men and women. As women we are more aware of our surrounds, and what all is happening on the road as well as pay attention to what's happening in the car too.
ReplyDeleteYou must be a genius! Because you are sooo right
DeleteHonestly I think men are the better drivers as bad as I hate to admit it. I know I have road rage. It seems like men are more chill behind the wheel than women in my opinion.
