Who lies more?
Have you ever wondered who lies the most, men or women? It is very interesting to sit and think I wonder who has lied to me more, a man or a woman? In society you would assume that men lie more than women, right? Your wrong, women lie more than men for the simple fact that men lie about stuff to “just get by.” Joely Johnson says in her post “why women lie”, “women lie to, for, and about their children; they lie about love and sex; they lie about money; and, perhaps most sadly, they lie about their own happiness.” Women lie to make themselves relevant to the situation at hand. Their lie can start so small at the beginning of the conversation; by the end of the conversation she has told at least 12 lies to cover up the first 4 she has told.
The lies women tell are a never ending process that can continue for days, months, and even years. While growing up, young females were taught not to lie. Susan Shapiro Barash author of “Little White Lies, Deep Dark Secrets: The Truth About Why Women Lie,” says that, “‘being told to be a good girl’ is really code for ‘keeping your secrets safe’”, meaning, keep telling lies to get yourself things you want. If a woman was at the mall with her husband and see the purse she has been eyeing every time she went to the mall, she might say something like “aw honey, I have an outfit to match this purse, can you get it for me?” And of course he is going to believe her and get it. Why, because women can lie with ease.
It’s easy for a woman to lie and get what they want because if they didn’t need it they wouldn’t ask for it. Shapiro goes to say “when a woman lies it’s a survival mechanism”. They lie to defend what they believe is right. Although people usually don’t start to believe the lies they tell. Bill Cammack believes “women are immersed in their lies.” Women lie so much that with in time they start to believe the lies as if they were true. The same reasons why women lie for themselves they lie for their children as well. While their children are attending school, women assume that their innocent offspring do no harm. Automatically the mother is going to take the kid’s side in defense because they know how their kid acts. Although they might be in the wrong, that mother will lie for her child until she gets caught up as well.
Although women lie to protect their kids they lie to protect their self. Women lie to hide their true feelings. Women want to be strong independent people but at the end of the day, that cliché "little white lie" they tell so they don't hurt someone's feelings. Women put other people’s feelings before their own to ensure the other person's happiness. Women would like to see how they can affect someone’s life. Meaning they would love to see someone smile before they smile. Women also have a habit to lie to themselves as Joley states the “more insidious lies are the ones we tell ourselves.” As I said before women lie so much that it becomes the truth in their eyes. She also goes to say "The lie just seems so much easier than the truth”, and "Sometimes these internal lies are even subconscious, because the truth is just too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves."
In my opinion women lie more than men. Women have more reasons to lie than a man does. If a woman is going to lie at least we know it’s for a good cause, most of the time. Ultimately, women will continue to lie because they feel like so much is their fault. Life, and telling the truth would be much simpler for women if less were expected of them. If women weren’t put on such a big pedestal they probably wouldn’t lie as much.
